What is Omefast-20?
Omefast-20 is a proton-pump inhibitor (PPI), with Omeprazole 20mg per capsule (enteric-coated pellets) manufactured by Greenlife Pharmaceuticals (imported) and listed under NAFDAC. It works by irreversibly inhibiting the H⁺/K⁺ ATPase enzyme (“acid pump”) on stomach parietal cells, which suppresses gastric acid secretion.

✅ Indications / Use Cases

Omefast-20 is indicated for:

• Gastric and duodenal ulcers

• Treatment of gastro-oesophageal reflux disease (GERD) and reflux oesophagitis

• Zollinger–Ellison syndrome (abnormally high acid production) under physician supervision

• Healing of the oesophagus lining in acid damage

⚠️ Dosage & Administration

• Take 1 capsule once daily in the morning before meals. For most ulcer or GERD cases, treatment may last 4–12 weeks.

• For maintenance/prevention: 10-20mg once daily depending on condition and doctor’s advice.

• In severe or hyperacid conditions (e.g., Zollinger-Ellison), higher or divided doses may be used under supervision.

⚠️ Side Effects & Precautions

Common side effects may include:

• Headache

• Abdominal discomfort, nausea, or diarrhea

• Flatulence, mild skin rash

Less common / rare effects:

• Arthralgia (joint pain), myalgia (muscle pain), possible changes in blood counts in rare cases

• Long-term use risks: reduced vitamin B₁₂ absorption, potential risk of bone fractures, kidney issues. Use under medical advice.

Precautions:

• Not recommended if you have known hypersensitivity to omeprazole or related PPIs.

• Use caution in patients with liver impairment.

• Inform your doctor of any other medications, especially those metabolized by the liver (CYP enzymes), because Omefast can affect them.

• Not to be used without prescription. Do not self-diagnose or self-prescribe.
